The International Association of Black Travel Writers
(IABTW) was initiated to unify black travel writers all over the country
and to help promote tourism. Its members travel all over the world
and write for local, state, national and international publications,
including newspapers, periodicals, magazines, documentaries and
travel guides. The organization includes professionals who have
completed dissertations, written books and conducted research in
the field of travel and tourism and continue to be interested in our
efforts. Some members work as publishers, editors, photojournalists
and broadcast hosts in the travel industry. Currently, with more than
ten chapters nationwide and growing, IABTW members are very
dedicated and motivated travel enthusiasts with a common desire to
help make traveling an educational, interesting, informative, safe and
enjoyable experience for everyone.
The International Association of Black Travel Writers is working to make its organization a viable
and recognizable force in the travel industry. We believe that all people should have the opportunity to
participate in and enjoy the benefits of travel experiences. We believe that traveling is an education in
and of itself. IABTW further believes that tourism and understanding different cultures can help to
promote world peace and build bridges between different people.
IABTW's mission is to:
** help strengthen the economy by encouraging and promoting
tourism.
** provide professional support, development and networking
opportunities for members.
** keep its members and the public abreast of travel news and
what's going on in the travel industry.
** encourage and promote travel and tourism among
African-Americans.
** promote diversity and multiculturalism among the general
population by encouraging visitation to places and events
related to the African Diaspora Heritage.
** highlight and introduce travel destinations, cultural events and
vacation deals to the general public.
** educate the community, especially African-Americans, about
the importance and value of traveling.
** practice and promote responsible journalism through
informative, educational and inspiring travel stories.
** support the conservation and preservation of historic sights,
natural wonders and educational tourist attractions.
