The officers, advisory board and area coordinators are the founding members of the
International Association of Black Travel Writers. We are travel writers from different
professions. Some of us are teachers, lawyers, publicists, accountants, business
owners, travel guides, authors and college instructors in addition to travel writers. We
invite other travel writers to join our team. In addition to our goal of promoting tourism
and African American travel, we would like to develop our organization through
increased membership. Unlike many travel writers associations, we are willing to train
writers, college students and travel professionals to become travel writers. You can
become a member of the International Association of Black Travel Writers if you meet
one of the following criteria:

1) a writer or journalists who has written travel articles for a major, reputable magazine,
newspaper, journal, book, travel guide  or website within the last two years,

2) a professional published writer who is actively submitting travel articles for
publication and enrolled in or completed a travel writers course,

3) a travel professional who is actively submitting travel articles for publication and
enrolled in or completed a travel writing course.

4) a college student majoring in journalism, English, communications, international
studies,  foreign language or a field related to  journalism and/or travel who is actively
submitting travel  articles for publication, and enrolled in or completed a travel writing
course.

5) a photojournalist who has had travel-related pictures published in a major, reputable
magazine, newspaper, journal, book, travel guide, or website within the last two years

6) a photojournalist who is actively submitting travel pictures to a major publication, and
enrolled in or completed a travel writing course.
